So yesterday I released my first Youth Vote podcast, and I thought I would share what I learned from the experience.
- Talking to yourself with nobody in the room and not feeling awkward is hard.
- I would have been better off if I had prepared. The process of thinking “Hey, I should start a podcast today” and publishing it lasted only 3 hours. I wrote down 3 topics to talk about and just talked in a straight take. If I were more prepared I would probably sound better and would have had fewer pauses and “umms.”
- Audacity, a free open-source sound-editing software actually does a very good job.
- If you use a laptop’s built-in microphone, you aren’t going to get the best sound quality.
As I keep doing these podcasts I’ll try to make improvements and share what I’m learning along the way for anyone that might be interested in starting their own podcast.
