2010 White House Summer Internships

Summer 2010 Program: June 1 – August 13

Below is the link to the application and recommendation form for the summer internship program from June 1 – August 13. Please read instructions below and refer to our FAQ page for additional explanations.

1. All applicants must submit a completed application packet ON or BEFORE Sunday, February 7, 2010.

A completed packet includes:

  • Two Essays: Each answer should be between 300-500 words in length.
  • Current Resume: Your resume should not exceed one page.
  • Three Letters of Recommendation

2. To be eligible an applicant must be:

  • United States citizen
  • At least 18 years of age on or before the first day of the internship
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a college, community college or university OR graduated in the past two years from undergraduate or graduate program at a college, community college or university OR
  • A veteran of the United States Armed forces who possesses a high school diploma or its equivalent and has served on active duty at any time over the past two years.

3. The White House internship program is an unpaid full-time program.

  • Interns will be expected to work from 9am-6pm, Monday-Friday, although hours may vary with each office. For questions regarding the definition of “full-time” please visit our FAQ page.

4. The application packet must be submitted online.

  • When an applicant has successfully submitted an application, he/she will receive an email confirmation.
  • When a letter of recommendation has been successfully submitted, both the applicant AND the recommender will receive an email confirmation with the name of the recommender who has submitted a letter on the applicant’s behalf. This is to ensure that all three letters of recommendation are successfully submitted.

About the Internship

We are looking for full or part-time interns to work in our Washington, D.C. office who believe in progressive causes and values. We are currently recruiting candidates to perform the following functions in support of our senior fellows:

  • Assist with research for future columns and books
  • Draft blog posts and other short pieces
  • Conduct online and offline research
  • Assist with administrative functions as needed

Submit a résumé, cover letter explaining why you want to work at Media Matters and a writing sample (preferably on the subject of politics and/or the media).

On a separate page, list the semester for which you’re applying, and the total number of hours per week that you are available (if not full-time, please specify available days and hours).

2010 Spring White House Internships

Just the messenger:

We are pleased to announce that the application for the 2010 Spring Internship is now available at whitehouse.gov/about/internships. Applications are due September 20, 2009.

The application includes two essays, three letters of recommendation and a resume. Each applicant will be evaluated on three basic qualities: a commitment to public service, demonstration of leadership in the community and dedication to the mission of this Administration. The applicant’s communication, writing and office skills will also be reviewed and considered. An applicant’s GPA is not figured into the final score, and each application is reviewed on a semi-blind basis.
